The club consists of both amateurs and professionals, young and old, male and female, and hunters and non hunters.
It exists for two main reasons: to help each handler achieve their maximum potential and to better all retriever breeds through selective breeding.

Monthly meetings meetings are held on the second wednesday of each month at bass pro shops in denham springs.
Meetings begin at 7:00 pm and dinner is served.
In december, in lieu of a club meeting, we celebrate christmas with a party on the saturday between the splits.
Training days club sponsored training days are held on the third saturday of each month.
Locations and times vary depending on the time of year.
History of the amite river hunting retriever club amite river hunting retriever club became an official member of hrc in 1985, the year after hrc was organized.
Its first licensed hunt test was held february 14, 1986.
Since then arhrc has hosted 25 consecutive annual hunt tests.
The club has hosted two international grand hunts.
Most recently we hosted the 2010 spring grand hunt and had 378 dogs with participants from the united states and canada.
We had one dog from the republic of slovenia, a country in central europe.
Club members include many accomplished amateur and professional trainers.
One member, mark lanier, served as president of the national hrc organization from 2005 to 2007.
Kevin bearden is currently serving as the vice president of hrc arhrc is proud to have earned 32 grand hunting retriever champion titles and over a hundred hunting retriever champion titles.
As the club has continued to grow and prosper we have become known as the baton rouge area retriever club.
In 2011, we celebrated our 25th anniversary hunt test.
